DNA Health Packages

Would you like health advice that is truly personalised?

DNA testing is changing the future of health as we are now able to identify our individual nutrition and lifestyle requirements based on our own unique genomic profile.

DNA testing allows me to offer you a truly personalised approach to nutrition by enabling you to take a preventative and proactive approach to your health using modifications to your diet and lifestyle that support you individual health needs.

A DNA test will help you to better understand why you are experiencing certain health issues. It can help you for example, to identify why you may have hormone imbalances, to understand your struggles with detoxification, to learn your predisposition to modifiable health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, to understand why you might struggle with depression or anxiety, or to explain why you have a propensity to gain weight.

Your DNA does not change so you will only need to do the test once in your lifetime, meaning you can use the power of nutrition to influence your health and wellbeing for decades to come.

After your test (just a simple cheek swab) your results will be analysed and then you will have a consultation to explain your report to you, and to offer personalised nutrition, supplement, and lifestyle recommendations based on your own unique genetic profile.

Please note that this service is based on Lifecode Gx Nutrigenomic testing only. I do not offer analysis of any other third party reports or DNA tests.

How It Works

Taking the DNA Test

Using the Lifecode Gx DNA test kit you will collect a sample of cheek cells from which your DNA is extracted and analysed. It takes only 1 minute to collect the sample, then place the swab into the test tube provided, add the stabilising tablet, complete and sign the consent form, and then send the test to Lifecode Gx using the return packaging provided.

Your results are not impacted by HRT, contraceptives, pregnancy, nutritional supplements, exercise, or other environmental factors. However to ensure that the sample is of the highest quality, you should refrain from eating or drinking for 15 minutes before you carry out the test.

Results will take approximately 4-5 weeks from when the test is ordered. Results are provided to you in electronic (pdf) format.

Understanding the Reports

The LifecodeGx reports are designed to be very user friendly, using colour coding to highlight genes that have variances on them that could be problematic. They are very detailed, providing a significant amount of information and scientific references for each of the genes featured.

My role as a nutrigenomics practitioner is to help you to understand the information that is provided for individual genes, but also to explain how your variants fit into your bigger ‘health picture’, how they might be influencing your symptoms, and to create your tailored Nutrigenomics Summary Report.

Confidentiality and Security

Lifecode Gx makes the following commitments regarding the security of your data:

  • Your data is confidential and will be kept securely

  • DNA is extracted and processed in the UK

  • Samples are anonymised by allocation of a bar code

  • Your data - including personal data, raw genetic data and reports - is not, and will not, be shared or sold to any third party

  • Data is destroyed six months after analysis

Practitioner Support

The DNA testing packages include a detailed analysis of your report and a specific consultation to explain your results, to recommend nutrition and lifestyle interventions, and to answer any questions that you may have.

Please be aware that DNA Health Packages consultations must be booked separately to any Personalised Nutrition Programme consultations.

Lifecode Gx Reports

  • Nutrient Core

The Nutrient Core Report is for those of you who are curious about how your genes impact your health.

It gives an insight into SNPs on a broad range of genes (29 in total) that will help you to understand your body’s tolerance (and intolerance) to gluten, lactose and caffeine, how your body absorbs and utilises specific key vitamins, your susceptibility to high blood pressure and inflammation, and your metabolism in terms of appetite control and blood sugar balance.

  • Hormones

The Hormones Report analyses the genes involved in the regulation, production, transport and metabolism of the stress and sex hormones (and there are a number). It looks how your gene variants affect your hormone balance and details the nutrients and environmental factors that can influence and improve this. This report is suitable for both men and women.

Symptoms of hormone imbalance include: infertility, low libido, low sperm count, acne, excess facial hair in women, PCOS, mood swings, weight gain, depression, menopausal issues, poor memory, or hormone-sensitive cancers.

  • Histamine Intolerance

Histamine has many functions: as a neurotransmitter, communicating messages to and from your brain and nervous system; triggering the release of stomach acid to help digestion; and it can also be released after stress, injury or allergic reaction as part of your body’s immune response.

The Histamine Intolerance Report analyses the genes and nutrients needed to breakdown and remove histamine, showing where disruptions occur and how to support optimal function.

  • Thyroid Balance

Thyroid hormones control the metabolism of almost every cell in your body, with wide-ranging metabolic, developmental and cardiovascular effects.

The Thyroid Balance Report analyses the genes involved in the thyroid hormone lifecycle: synthesis - centrally (in the thyroid) and in activation in peripheral tissues, transport and metabolism, processing of cofactors (vitamins D and A) and inhibitors (stress and toxins). It also examines genes that confer susceptibility to inflammation and autoimmunity.

  • Nervous System

The nervous system supports the transmission of messages around the mind and body, enabling you to respond to your environment.

A neurotransmitter is a molecule that carries signals between neurons and across nerve junctions (synapses). Excitatory neurotransmitters increase the likelihood a neuron will fire a signal, while inhibitory neurotransmitters have the opposite effect. In order for us to interact effectively with our environment these must remain in balance.

The Nervous System Report is very useful for clients who experience low mood, addictions, over-eating, stress and an inability to relax.

  • Methylation

Methylation is involved in almost every metabolic process in the body, occurring billions of times every second in your cells.

Imbalances in methylation - too little or too much - can increase your susceptibility to chronic health conditions such as heart disease, circulatory problems, chronic fatigue, infertility, immune and autoimmune conditions, food and chemical sensitivities, and mood and psychiatric disorders, as well as cancer and premature ageing.

The Methylation Report examines genes involved in five sub-cycles - folate, methionine, neurotransmitter, transsulphuration and urea, and provides guidance on how to support or bypass bottlenecks or weaknesses.

  • Detoxification

Detoxification is the physiological removal of toxic substances from the human body. It is mainly carried out by the liver, and to a lesser extent the small intestine, kidneys and lungs. Substances such as nutrients, food additives, pesticides, medications, air pollutants, alcohol and hormones are transformed from being fat-soluble to water-soluble, allowing them to be more easily excreted from the body.

Poor detoxification causes symptoms such as headaches, muscle aches, fatigue, allergies, skin disorders, weight gain, bloating, acid reflux and heartburn, excessive sweating, chronic infections, subfertility, low libido, poor mental function and low stress tolerance.

The Detoxification Report examines the genes which most impact your detoxification pathways and provides personalised nutritional recommendations to optimise detoxification.

  • Metabolics

Metabolism refers to all the chemical reactions that take place within each cell and are essential for life. It involves many interconnected pathways that can be divided into anabolism and catabolism. Anabolism uses energy to synthesise sugars, fats, proteins and nucleic acids, whereas catabolism releases energy in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), alongside carbon dioxide, water and ammonia.

This new 'double-sized' Metabolics report describes how nutrients are absorbed and metabolised by your body, and the genetic, nutrient and environmental factors that support metabolic flexibility or can lead to dysfunction.

It provides six interconnected personalised pathways: Appetite Regulation, Nutrient Sensing, Sugar Metabolism, Fat Metabolism, Cholesterol and Bile, Mitochondria and Inflammation.
