What is Functional Testing?

I use a wide variety of functional tests through trusted private laboratories to get a better understanding of the root causes of your health symptoms.

Typically, I would make any recommendations or referrals for tests (assuming any are needed at all) at your initial consultation and results are presented at your first follow-up consultation.

If you have existing/recent test results, including those obtained via your GP, you are invited to either attach them to your New Client Health Questionnaire or bring them along to your appointment.

Examples of the types of tests available include:

  • hormone tests

  • stool testing

  • thyroid function

  • nutrient status

  • cholesterol

  • liver function

  • omega fatty acids 6:3 ratio

  • gastrointestinal imbalances

  • DNA tests (click here for more information)

The private laboratories I use include:

  • Lifecode Gx

  • Invivo Healthcare

  • Genova Diagnostics

  • Cyrex Laboratories

  • Nordic Laboratories

  • Functional DX

  • Regenerus Labs

  • Thriva

  • Medichecks

Why Do I Use Functional Testing?

In some situations being able to use functional testing can be incredibly helpful to add extra pieces to the puzzle to build a more complete clinical picture. It can be particularly useful when seeking to uncover the underlying cause for symptoms or conditions. Functional tests give me the opportunity to review the body at a molecular level, or assess how an organ or tissues are working.

The type of sample you would have to provide will depend on the test but the tests I use usually require either a saliva, urine, stool or blood sample. In most cases, once a test has been purchased, the test kit is sent to you directly by the testing laboratory, and samples are returned directly by you for processing.

Your results will be sent to me, so I can explain them to you, but you will always be given a copy. Costs do vary between tests and I will happily go through your options with you. Please be assured that I will always look to get maximum information from the number of minimum tests, if they are even required at all.

Genetic Testing

Mainstream medicine uses genetic testing to diagnose rare inherited health conditions that are usually identified in childhood. However in recent years the science of genomics has evolved, and now individuals can easily access and use their genetic information to enable a them to take a preventative, proactive and personalised approach to their health and wellbeing.

I work exclusively with specialist genetic testing company, Lifecode Gx to provide Nutrigenomic DNA test panels that inform how inherited health risks can be mitigated through personalised nutrition and lifestyle change.
